Meet Dirt the Railway Cat and ‘King of the Shop’ at the East Ely Railroad Depot Museum
Despite looking like he just came from working on train engines all day, this cutie was born with this dusty fur pattern. He was born about 10 years ago in the Nevada Northern Railway engine house under the rotary snow plow. Since then Dirt has become a famous feature at the East Ely Railroad Depot Museum and the visitors can’t get enough.
With all the people coming through, his owners have posted some ‘secrets’ to get him to come over and say hi.
“Keep talking while you tour the engine house and see the trains! “Dirt” get curious when he hears a lot of voices. One of the reasons he comes out during our guided tours.”
“Don’t approach him to fast, you have to wait and let “Dirt” come up to you. He will walk around you to feel you out first, if you bend down and just wait for him to come rub against you, you are more likely to be his friend.”

“If “Dirt” is taking his cat nap during the day, your museum passes are good all day long, you can come back and try again later. The King deserves his beauty sleep!”
It’s hard to deny that Dirt has some dashing good looks, which is why his owners created the “Dirt The Cat Photo Contest” where people can vote on their favorite photo of the cat. A winner is chosen from the photo with the most likes and can receive free tickets or free adventures from the museum.
